Today we begin a new series of e-bulletins,<em>Transition Focus</em>, which will inform you of decisions that have been approved by both UTB<a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a> and TSC<a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a> for the transfer of services.</span><br /><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><span style="color: #002244; font-size: 19.5pt;"><strong>DUAL ENROLLMENT</strong></span><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><br />In regions of the state that have both a univeristy and community college, <a href="https://community.utb.edu/page.redir?target=http://www.utb.edu/vpaa/dual/Pages/default.aspx&amp;srcid=1025&amp;srctid=1&amp;erid=677591&amp;trid=9a0bd6d4-e34c-4f16-94ee-69f38aa0154b" target="_blank">dual enrollment</a> has traditionally been offered through the auspices of the community college. Following that model,</span></span><strong> UTB</strong><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><strong> will be transferring the function of providing dual enrollment to TSC</strong><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><strong>, with the exception of students at the Brownsville Early College High School and UTB</strong><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><strong> Math and Science Academy.</strong><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;">School districts are in the process of being notified that high school students in our region will continue to have uninterrupted opportunity to earn tuition-free dual enrollment high school and college credit taught by teachers who meet the same rigorous<a href="https://community.utb.edu/page.redir?target=http://www.sacs.org&amp;srcid=1025&amp;srctid=1&amp;erid=677591&amp;trid=9a0bd6d4-e34c-4f16-94ee-69f38aa0154b" target="_blank">SACS</a> standards in their high school classroom.<br />These courses will continue to be eligible for transfer to any public institution of higher education. Until TSC<a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/null"></a> obtains separate accreditation, dual enrollment courses will be accredited under the partnership accreditation. <br />We ask your help in assisting the dual enrollment staff as they prepare for a smooth and seamless transition.</span></span><br /><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"></span></span><br /><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><em>(Ed's. Note: In the&nbsp;above-released public service announcement, it&nbsp;appears that UTB is assuming that the dual-enrollment Brownsville Independent School District students will automatically&nbsp;attend TSC&nbsp;in the Fall of 2012.</em></span></span><br /><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><span style="font-size: 10.5pt;"><em>However, we have learned that that may not be the case as the BISD honchos at the Advanced Academics Department are contemplating on going with Harlinge's TSTC, not TSC. We wonder why&nbsp;members of the&nbsp;department klike Acacia Ameel and Pilar Janis have opted to contract with an institution outside of the city, instead of having the students serviced by our local community college. Don't you? Dual Enrollment offers college classes, for college credit, to high school students. In the UTB model, the students take the classes on their high school campuses. The school districts pay a five dollar fee in lieu of tuition and fees, meaning the students pay nothing, and the school districts provide the use of college textbooks free of charge to the students. UTB has about 6,000 students in Dual Enrollment. They are from many districts, not just BISD.)</em></span></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-7984794043219059907?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
