Long live Brownsville Blues. Though Downtown Browntown's duration was short, it forged a new path for Brownsville Blues. Downtown Browntown strived for a more professional product that its predecessors, El Rocinante and the Brownsville Literary Review, dismissed as beneath their artistic dignity. Brownsville Blues (brownsvilleblues.blogspot.com) will follow the example set by Downtown Browntown with the exception that the new site will admit comments. For lack of a better description, Brownsville Blues will not showcase aesthetic smut as El Rocinante and the Brownsville Literary Review once did. The editorial staff feared that switching to yet another blog in such a short period of time would cost Brownsville Blues its three readers, but the figures have increased rather than decreased. "Promoting our postings on Facebook has had a dramatic effect on Brownsville Blues' stats," said Scott Steinbeck, BB's managing editor. "With the inclusion of Cobbleheads' Joe 'Caliche' Kenney and The Brownsville Herald's Brad 'Bone' Doherty on a daily basis, our numbers have expanded to five." There will be no more postings on Downtown Browntown. Kaput! It has served its purpose. Brownsville Blues hopes to have a long-term relationship with the community, but the future is fickle.
