THEN THERE WERE FOUR IN TSC TRUSTEES MAY 12 ELECTION
---------------------------------------------------------------
<span style="font-weight: bold;">By Juan Montoya</span><br /><br />The last-minute candidacy of Maribel Guerrero for a seat on the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees was followed by her not-so-surprising last-minute withdrawal, leaving four candidates for two positions to be vacated by David Oliveira and Robert Robles.<br /><table class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: left;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7VvIz-1cQL_-5mwfvvE9SsCOJauXVqJjvQNna6bGYw4NpTkKwOY7sTp3EVPqOc8jpo3TKHZz2su0qcdE0Qjg893Zo-WXYNLJ_BLPnStCcxRLUFqGRrXoInFACI73fFhW175eTzCyQ7ZY/s1600/ramhino.png" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717720295296013282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7VvIz-1cQL_-5mwfvvE9SsCOJauXVqJjvQNna6bGYw4NpTkKwOY7sTp3EVPqOc8jpo3TKHZz2su0qcdE0Qjg893Zo-WXYNLJ_BLPnStCcxRLUFqGRrXoInFACI73fFhW175eTzCyQ7ZY/s200/ramhino.png" style="float: left; height: 230px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 150px;" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">HINOJOSA</td></tr></tbody></table><table class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjChXTx-CdKpGhd4nc08dHc9CnR_yAjBSLksER8oQh0oh0LABTOiqmYsS4MWEMErHYp6I_cHTyOm99wOfgoE47_p_R3FyOnPs7YIQD5PLbdEitAuXS2TvEMaX_hRcg4T4WY90zjmWi6zqw/s1600/urestimug.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717721126019701330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjChXTx-CdKpGhd4nc08dHc9CnR_yAjBSLksER8oQh0oh0LABTOiqmYsS4MWEMErHYp6I_cHTyOm99wOfgoE47_p_R3FyOnPs7YIQD5PLbdEitAuXS2TvEMaX_hRcg4T4WY90zjmWi6zqw/s200/urestimug.jpg" style="float: right; height: 230px; margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; width: 163px;" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">URESTI</td></tr></tbody></table>Guerrero, who is said to be married to Ruben Guerrero, a principal in the firm of Breeden-McCumber, the public relations firm that does work for UTB-TSC, is said to have told close associates that she would consider withdrawing from the May 12 election if she felt that her candidacy was not needed.<br />Guerrero's exit leaves Place 7 to either Ramon Hinojosa, a former superintendent and educator for 38 years, or Robert Uresti, whose Facebook Page lists him as a Pan American University graduate who studied Economics at Texas A&amp;M and is now "working almost every day" as a laborer at Galaxia Car Wash.<br />Vying for Place 6 is Dr. Reynaldo Garcia, a dentist, and City of Brownsville high-tech guru Tad Hasse, both of whom are said to favor the UTB-TSC split.<br /><table class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" align="center"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRIZz1hrXni1PvlfCIAiFz21EEA6sr3pgsJxa_gRNaF9n60H2ECMoH4DJOWvC0sflMhdZmmy8u-7fo_bvzoY8lyvdY2n4tuLMwArVxqQD9yCmCDq6uFb9cnA8S0pqlgnr8vwwOXDbhSgE/s1600/thass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRIZz1hrXni1PvlfCIAiFz21EEA6sr3pgsJxa_gRNaF9n60H2ECMoH4DJOWvC0sflMhdZmmy8u-7fo_bvzoY8lyvdY2n4tuLMwArVxqQD9yCmCDq6uFb9cnA8S0pqlgnr8vwwOXDbhSgE/s1600/thass.jpg" style="height: 167px; width: 150px;" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">HASSE</td></tr></tbody></table><table class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: left;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr></tbody></table><table class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: center;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXhhyn9bGYbKn-n0DtLcFgqoXoctX8z7oN9PeWAk8U1LPHDWgAwnGJT3jo2KL2tXWwIltC75oRiktrgBBkWdMlDH-z-q2IDagZg3UTfxl-Lxwng8-WgHJ3uzutHVYDWS-Zx-IVS_Eqsc/s1600/reygar.gif" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5717725886767802242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEXhhyn9bGYbKn-n0DtLcFgqoXoctX8z7oN9PeWAk8U1LPHDWgAwnGJT3jo2KL2tXWwIltC75oRiktrgBBkWdMlDH-z-q2IDagZg3UTfxl-Lxwng8-WgHJ3uzutHVYDWS-Zx-IVS_Eqsc/s400/reygar.gif" style="float: left; height: 206px; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; width: 149px;" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">GARCIA</td></tr></tbody></table>Uresti is seen as somewhat of a loose cannon and a gadfly. His appearances before the various governmental entities are often marked by acrimonious assertions and argument.<br />Hinojosa said he wants to set TSC on a firm financial footing and to make tuition and other costs associated with attending a community college affordable and accessible as they used to be when TSC was on its own.<br /><div>Apparently, that was enough to garner the support of the BUC board (Brownsville Unity Council, a coalition of unions and worker associations), in writing. Depending on how hard this organization works, it seems that Hinojosa may have a leg up on his opponent.<br />Anyway you slice it, it appears that UTB President Juliet Garcia's historical influence on the board has seen its last days.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-844894492180028139?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
