CHAVEZ'S REASSIGNMENT NOT DUE TO FORENSIC AUDIT
---------------------------------------------------------------
<div><div>By <strong>Juan Montoya</strong></div><div>If you read the story about the reassignment of former Brownsville Independent School District Athletic Director Tom Chavez, you would assume that his removal was caused by the revelations that he favored his mentor Joe Rodriguez's sports company over other bids</div><div>To make that long story short, that forensic audit staff said they had handed evidence to show he favored BNS Sports over others without giving due consideration to the competition's bids.</div><div>In fact, the staff's report recommended that the administration and board take strong action up to the point of termination from his position with the BISD and stated that the evidence had been turned over to the proper authorities for their consideration.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj12RS2rcpqIOmvte2jvr3WOQm3PwpNUQYX122ZiFtHWvBHOihgGAexdW_Jt35xINP1H2fyGMQ8dsjEJMW-QPidMzS-dA3lL3Bog9dfVFpEsFOpk8iZS5lzWcFpj60sxIjE-zIwnq0n9aI/s1600/chavez.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; width: 312px; height: 320px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5715366024468486786" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj12RS2rcpqIOmvte2jvr3WOQm3PwpNUQYX122ZiFtHWvBHOihgGAexdW_Jt35xINP1H2fyGMQ8dsjEJMW-QPidMzS-dA3lL3Bog9dfVFpEsFOpk8iZS5lzWcFpj60sxIjE-zIwnq0n9aI/s400/chavez.jpg" /></a></div><div>Now, judging from the way our local DA has acted in the past on politically-charged cases like this, we figure he'll probably pull one like he did in the case of City Commissioner Jessica Kalifa-Tetreau and just let the thing slide. The message is out. If you abusse of your mate chronically but are an elected official, you can go about your way. Or, as in the case of the investigation of the hiring of County Commissioner Ernie Hernandez who is suspected of using his clout to pull strings to have someone take the civil service exam, just let it languish on the shelf and hope it dissolves into oblivion.</div><div>But, we digress.</div><div>We have learned that in the case of Chavez, matters more serious (if that can be said) prompted his reassignment. In particular, our sources indicate that the case revolves around two high school baseball p[layers who ended up hospitalized after the tough-man routines their coaches have them go through. I t seems that the exercise regimen imposed upon high school kids more resembles boot camp for SEALS rather than high school sports.</div><div>We learned that after the first case where a student was hospitalized after he was ordered to do 200 squats as part of his training, Chavez was called on the carpet and in no uncertain terms told to talk to his coaching staff and ordered them to cease and desist from the strongman stuff.</div><div>It turns out that the student's mother just happened to have worked for Children Protective Services and a big lawsuit is in the works.</div><div>Well, just when everything seemed to have been settled, yet another student was hospitalized after performing the exercise regimen in another of the high schools.</div><div>"The board and the superintendent had ordered Chavez to talk to his coaches and apparently, either he didn't or they didn't care," said BISD insider. "That was the last straw. Coming on the heels of the forensic audit, it didn't go well at all with the board or Superintendent Carl Montoya. Chavez had to go."</div><div> </div><div> </div></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-4048032125507848248?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
