JP 2-2 RUNOFF A REFERENDUM ON ERNIE HERNANDEZ, CYBERCHEEZMEHMONGERS
---------------------------------------------------------------
By <strong>Juan Montoya</strong><br />If any election result will determine the political fortunes of any one individual, it is probably the runoff race between Yolanda Begum and Erin Hernandez Garcia for the Cameron County JP 2-2 position.<br />Even though Cameron County Pct. 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez's name isn't on the ballot, if his daughter wins, it will signal that he will get one step closer in his bid to establish a political empire in Cameron County.<br /><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiutroJADX_9pzNIEY25cb94PzSTcxt1VL7Nqpths0Bo8Aw1qvHdjyUUQ54YB4w79hmIQx0WqKEIVUZLLEleNjMgmF-FcCa_4QfviRwSh3KYgDHbp_k7iWu4N38A0-kk16VTezU9i1AtVA/s1600/ernie.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" eda="true" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiutroJADX_9pzNIEY25cb94PzSTcxt1VL7Nqpths0Bo8Aw1qvHdjyUUQ54YB4w79hmIQx0WqKEIVUZLLEleNjMgmF-FcCa_4QfviRwSh3KYgDHbp_k7iWu4N38A0-kk16VTezU9i1AtVA/s320/ernie.png" width="320" /></a>Hernandez, who lost to Pat Ahumada for mayor of the City of Brownsville and then eked out a controversy-tainted victory over Ruben Pena for the position he now holds, now wants to have his daughter be part of a wide-ranging political influence ring that he will doubtless use to make a run for county judge.<br />And his pervasive influence over the elections department nominally headed by lapdog Roger Ortiz is reflected when the pliant elections official turns a blind eye to blatant voter abuse such as politiqueros hauling in vans of elderly and mentally-disabled voters and allowing the ward heeler to vote on their behalf.<br />In fact, even the placement of precinct elections judges has been tainted when Ortiz allows his underlings to reject and appoint polling site judges solely on their political persuasions.<br />For example, Adriana Villarreal, a supervisor in Ortiz's office, rejected the application of Gloria Beier on the grounds that she had been a block walker campaigning for Begum but approved the application of Linda Castro Dragustinovis for Pct. 98, Benavides Elementary School, despite the fact that Castro has been a vociferous supporter and block walker for Erin Hernandez and Carlos Masso. Castro is one of the principals with the cyberpolitiquero group Cheezmeh.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQw_-XGhB72wUlZSOYsLainp2qzWkq_cHnOOx7vL5zdTT38OICghh7yB8fUXnP_JOo-gbHAlShlFRL5puNA7QaRCfBbPYp512rxg3ulOzSmgMX5LF__vDaU6wN2t6dV8dE1JoYEvvVumE/s1600/erin+and+linda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQw_-XGhB72wUlZSOYsLainp2qzWkq_cHnOOx7vL5zdTT38OICghh7yB8fUXnP_JOo-gbHAlShlFRL5puNA7QaRCfBbPYp512rxg3ulOzSmgMX5LF__vDaU6wN2t6dV8dE1JoYEvvVumE/s1600/erin+and+linda.jpg" /></a>Villarreal is said to have a romantic relationship with Amadeo Rodriguez Jr., one of the Hernandez politiqueros recently implicated in herding the elderly and coercing them to vote for the ticket headed by Masso, Erin Hernandez and Abel Gomez.<br />"Adriana placed Linda Castro in my voting precinct and rejected Gloria's application," said Begum. "And Linda has been openly campaigning for my opponent and appearing in Facebook postings. What does that tell you?"</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Ernie Hernandez's ambition knows no bounds, and neither does that of his daughter Erin nor his wife Norma's, the real operative in this political ring.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Each one of them has been linked to some unseemly activity to wrest political control of the county at all costs.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Whether it's doling out patronage jobs (Ernie), harassing her opponents on the campaign trail (Erin and Norma), or deceiving the elderly and mentally incapacitated voters and coercing them to vote for her daughter and harvesting the mail-in votes(Norma and her paid politiqueros), they have alll had a hand in perpetrating the worst kind of politics on the residents of this county.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In the last few days of the campaign in this runoff races, the ticket that has emerged has been one of the Hernandezs forming a ticket with DA runoff candidate Carlos Masso, Constable Abel Gomez and Denise Blanchard, running for Congress.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Their literature is passed out by the same operatives, pre-marked sample ballots bear the ovals darkened by their names, and Facebook posting feature them all together.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">There is a factor associated with the presence of Denise Blancahrd working here that might just jump out and bite their behind, however. The fact that Blanchard has associated with the Hernandezs has prompted a reaction from those supporting Filemon Vela Jr., Blanchard's rival in the congressional runoff.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Vela's in-law, Ruben Pena, lost to Ernie Hernandez for Cameron County commissioner just two years ago, in a race that was tainted with charges that Hernandez "harvested" the mail-in ballots with politiqueras.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Even though the judge in the case found more than enough evidence to take the case to trial, the time restrictions involved forced him to bring the case to an end. Rest assured that neither Pena nor the Velas have forgotten that maneuver.<br />In a footnote on Ortiz's lip service to fair elections while on the Hernandez leash, it has been revealed that when he told the local daily that he was calling for an inspector from the Secretary of State's office to monitor this election, he was not really telling the truth.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPQ15QZUe070z1D2w_Vj_UYGJixgY9mmjh3_Fz1S1dzqjE2Q8Q2S1ZgwHoYtVVnwBTgx4lw8Pm-oW1ilsBSiT6tYTpEp-l0MTpMvnA5cFMrY9MxGMGOXBmBLL5sLagG2211buDK64aMbk/s1600/erasmo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" eda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPQ15QZUe070z1D2w_Vj_UYGJixgY9mmjh3_Fz1S1dzqjE2Q8Q2S1ZgwHoYtVVnwBTgx4lw8Pm-oW1ilsBSiT6tYTpEp-l0MTpMvnA5cFMrY9MxGMGOXBmBLL5sLagG2211buDK64aMbk/s1600/erasmo1.jpg" /></a>It now turns out this inspector, Paul Miles, is not from the Secretary of State's office after all. A local blogger's call to that office revealed that Miles was no longer associated with it, but instead was now a member of an organization called the Texas Association of Counties.<br />His investigative work will also not include a monitoring of how ballots are handled and the protocols of accepting them, but only the actual arithmetic of the count.<br />So Ernie an Erin can rest easy now that Roger has run interference for them.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In the sidelines, and champing at the bit to be relevant, the delusional Cheezmeh politiquero group has been attempting mightily to remain politically relevant as the countywide races come to a conclusion, The results in these races, too, comprise a referendum on their viability.</div>The decision awaits the voters who trek to the polling places today. Will Ernie get his empire and Cheezmeh its credibility? Or will the voters opt to reject empire building and cybercheezmehmongering?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-7228272260391081406?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

AS BRADSHAW'S CAMPAIGN CLOSES, MORE DECEIT FROM PAID S.C. GUN AGAINST ADELA
---------------------------------------------------------------
By <strong>Juan Montoya</strong><br />As the GOP runoff contest between Adela Garza and Jessica Bradshaw draws to an end today, we were made aware by a former Bradshaw supporter that the Tea Party candidate "has been citing a news source on her Facebook account as well as her most recent mailer."<br />The blog called "<em>South Texas Daily"</em> didn't exist until the July 23 and is said to be the work of Jessica Bradshaw associate and her paid South Carolina attack dog, Jeffery Sewell (who posts under the pen name Paul Gable).<br /><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG_uaQ0N698ML3J7APBoacAyB4GNJ00e2fyhnGu1y5AG6DD36z6Fiom6-AndTy4ZqZY6v4W5TEu1lA0iwIG9h55I3wG1bClfhOpYgf5jhQL9YXuEgr2vJ7ybSSW3YKx3-xQw0RzYgUSfc/s1600/sewell.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" eda="true" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG_uaQ0N698ML3J7APBoacAyB4GNJ00e2fyhnGu1y5AG6DD36z6Fiom6-AndTy4ZqZY6v4W5TEu1lA0iwIG9h55I3wG1bClfhOpYgf5jhQL9YXuEgr2vJ7ybSSW3YKx3-xQw0RzYgUSfc/s320/sewell.bmp" width="320" /></a>The writer says that Sewell maintains a "consulting" business in South Carolina where he is well known to use his full time blog SCHotline to attack the opponents of his various benefactors. Bradshaw and Sewell came to an agreement on compensation (after 10 months of the latter's involvement in the shadows of Bradshaw's campaign). </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The amount which Bradshaw is keeping hush hush (because the majority of her lemmings can't even get gas money from her) is rumored to be a large sum.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Sewell has the reputation in South Carolina of being a gun carrying, nut job, drunkard after his many public and online dealings with elected officials and other politicos alike according to Fitsnews.com. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Not long ago, Sewell had sent the following message to the previously linked blog as a result of their continued coverage of him. I would like to leave you with that quote. <em>âœhave a nice day you jack off weewee lover ⦠What does it feel like to have no friends? There is a cure for this, please call â¦â </em></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The rest is simply too graphic to be repeated here. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitlSlFJO9qA3-CW_A-MESModU3Fdevb-XZIwWNELRzhNtLpmJeyuwaEFMadlF5BAFw2k41db3914nLeH8t_6w5VPjXeFSG_baTBBPYwe1eHdWGirr6yh5W-jGM07FkSmeRz92BVOjfdkw/s1600/ajessica1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" eda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitlSlFJO9qA3-CW_A-MESModU3Fdevb-XZIwWNELRzhNtLpmJeyuwaEFMadlF5BAFw2k41db3914nLeH8t_6w5VPjXeFSG_baTBBPYwe1eHdWGirr6yh5W-jGM07FkSmeRz92BVOjfdkw/s1600/ajessica1.jpg" /></a>"I was a lemming of Jessica Bradshaw until today but after this move I can tell you I am voting for Adela Garza as my next Congresswoman," the writer commented.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Other publications such as Fitsnews.com describe Sewell as "the West Columbia, S.C.-based political operative (and we use that term very, very loosely) is best known in Palmetto political circles for being âœa few shingles short of a single-wide,â and for his adeptness when it comes to copying and pasting original content from other websites."</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">According to Fitsnews. com, Sewell, "the editor of the once-influential website SC Hotline (which now draws fewer than 2,500 unique visits a month), was apparently displeased by the racial makeup (and presumed limp-wristedness) of various actors starring in television commercials.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Hereâ™s what Sewell had to say:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><em>Is it just me or is everyone either black & or gay in TV commercials, ths is just wrong, REAL white ppl dnt lk rap period!"</em></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The repudiation of those statements have made Sewell a persona non grata in South Carolina. As a result of Bradshaw's desperation, we now have his offerings available to readers in the Rio Grande Valley and the Congressional District 34.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In the South Texas daily, the discredited South Carolinian has filled the blog with adoring posts of Bradshaw such as "Jessica Puente Bradshaw Closing Strong, Leading in Early Polls.," Puente Bradshaw Target of Desperation Move," "Jessica Puente Bradshaw Wows Forum Attendees,", etc., </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Every single "comment" posted on the blog is a statement of support or praise for Bradshaw. Those of us who have operated blogs know that it is simply impossible for any one candidate or issue to garner unanimous approval by the fickle cyberaudience. It's simply unbelievable. </div>Now, we all know that until the last week of July, there simply was no South Texas Daily in the blogosphere. Does this mean that the creation of a blog attacking Garza is, to quote its writer, a "Desperation Move?"<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-1082752817531814867?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

TANGLED WEB AT ELECTIONS: WILL FRAUD GO ON AS USUAL?
---------------------------------------------------------------
By <b>Juan Montoya</b><br />Retired federal employee Robert Gracia must have felt frustrated when he went to vote at Cristo Rey Catholic Church last Wednesday on Southmost Road and saw a politiquero fill in seven ballots for the candidates who were paying him to herd elderly and mentally-disabled voters to the polling places.<br />The politiqueros were handing their charges marked ballots with large arrows pointing at candidates Erin Hernandez garcia, Carlos Masso and Abel Gomez. All three are in runoff races against Yolanda Begum, for JP 2-2, District Attorney, and Constable Pc.t, respectively.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsNquLddmHgL5llttmZ2lzmDGpeTveEjXkr8jrk6rcdI-daEUBfrTeLVk8MAxhm3luFA_bBSAV66L-KH_HS6giqlKYlHG8NW5YbFXib_cPGEFJ6aKJ8TmwFXPk-dCYuS3mI98QCqAayR4/s1600/ernie2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsNquLddmHgL5llttmZ2lzmDGpeTveEjXkr8jrk6rcdI-daEUBfrTeLVk8MAxhm3luFA_bBSAV66L-KH_HS6giqlKYlHG8NW5YbFXib_cPGEFJ6aKJ8TmwFXPk-dCYuS3mI98QCqAayR4/s320/ernie2.gif" width="320" /></a>Suddenly, his one vote had been cancelled and trumped by seven votes who did not even know who they voted for. The polling place judges had simply allowed the politiquero to fill in the voting ballots and initial the ballots to indicate that he had filled them in for the people in the waiting van.<br />"It was gross," Gracia told the local daily.<br />That scene was repeated 10 or 20 times daily during the five-day early voting period under the noses â" and with the acquiescence of â" Elections Administrator Roger Ortiz and the judges at the various polling places. And, in fact, the packing of these illegal votes because they can't be characterized as anything else.<br />And just as Gracia's vote was cancelled out twenty-times fold during the early voting period, so were the other 50 or 60 votes that were cast by voters who went to the early-voting period polling sites on their own. If predictions hold true for the low turnout projected for the runoff elections Tuesday, those hauled-in votes â" plus the hundreds of mail-in votes that traditionally impact the totals every election cycle â" might decide the outcome of legal voters who cast their votes without the undue influence of paid ward heelers blemishing their ballots.<br />The role of politiquera Herminia Becerra has perhaps been overstated. Loud, sometimes abrasive, she has become the poster child of Cameron County politiqueras. Perhaps more insidious is the role played by Norma Hernandez, Amadeo Rodriguez Jr., and Ortiz himself.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfwIZnTkUedBu-p0CeiIhgvccNOSUcYyV1RIzHyQRh2-T8SFODPCPYq50mTau4VDKLEOM9F8-D5mKFq_D0zdk4W8bnRouj3b_h4IO6fYj0CN6k6fikdzs32LblkTJeMt3ncMa0oIXg94w/s1600/herminia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfwIZnTkUedBu-p0CeiIhgvccNOSUcYyV1RIzHyQRh2-T8SFODPCPYq50mTau4VDKLEOM9F8-D5mKFq_D0zdk4W8bnRouj3b_h4IO6fYj0CN6k6fikdzs32LblkTJeMt3ncMa0oIXg94w/s320/herminia.jpg" width="320" /></a>Becerra will egg on opponents about how she has already brought in more than "200." "300," "400," and sometimes even "700," votes to the runoff election. Take it with a grain of salt. In any event, after working the Cameron County system for more than a half century, she might be good for anywhere from 100 to 150 write-in and walk-in voters.<br />"<i>Los tres mios van a ganar</i>," she boasted Monday from in front of the courthouse.<br />Hernandez is quite another cup of tea. She has made an industry of milking write-in ballots from the elderly by a fastidious practice of registering them to vote when they come into the adult day care centers, periodically updating her lists and when election time comes around, herding them off to the polls to collect for her troubles.<br />This year she has been brazen in her "harvesting" of these elderly votes. You see, this time it is not her husband Ernie, the Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner, who is running. Rather, it is her daughter Erin who is in a runoff with surging populist Yolanda Begum. Erin â" despite her protests â" ridiculed Begum's Mexico roots through a handful of proxies. First it was her Spanish accent that drew their spite, then her education, and then even the way she wore her make up.<br />Now, in her latest Sunday ad, she states plaintively that she is running on her "merits."<br />We should ask, why on earth would a successful attorney opt to run for a position that pays peanuts compared to the wages a good lawyer could earn? Some, as we have learned, clear that much in single case or referral.<br />For Erin to say that she wants to "raise the bar" for JPs in the county is ludicrous, since she could have run against Linda Salazar, the JP 2-1 next door who really has a Spanish accent, little or no education, and whose social graces leave quite a bit to be desired. No, Erin, uplift the bench is not what comes to mind when one thinks of the Erin Hernandez candidacy. What one thinks is that your dad and mom need someone at the JPs position to dispense favors and facilitate the eventual candidacy of Ernie Hernandez for county judge. Having someone at the JPs office would make it that much easier to curry the favor of Cameron County residents.<br />Because think about this. If Erin had decided to run against Salazar, she would have been running for a four-year term. As it is, when she decided to run for the JP 2-2 position, she was running for the unexpired term of Tony Torres, whose term would have been over in 2013. If she takes over in January 2013, she will have to run a year following her inauguration.<br />Now on to Amadeo Rodriguez Jr. And let me make it clear right now that we are not talking about Amadeo Sr., a bondsman who also holds the county's coffee shot contract and has so far kept clean of the ongoing Limas scandal and the current voting anomalies. Commissioners recently voted to extend the his coffee shop contract. <br />Rodriguez Jr. was the one who was named by a day-care provider as the one responsible â" along with Norma Hernandez â" of trying to force elderly residents onto waiting vans and ferrying them to the voting places to cast their votes according to the pre-marked sample ballots they handed them when they were on board.<br />Amadeo III, his son, is the nephew of Sylvia Rodriguez, the administrative assistant to JP 2-1 Linda Salazar. He works for the county at the warehouse where the ballots boxes and materials are kept. Adriana Villarreal, who works for the county, his girlfriend, is in charge of managing and supervising elections judges during elections.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpfg6WRGotobgIbMUnVXezOe2dOyenygouDOW-U__QILXre-5TH0a0axPPmd-wO7YcoV6ObsdNKD4DtdLLVZAT2M_DOxSsmSJDomqDxBei9Rqnp9WoGN4sqWcG_nZ_NO30rT8U80vXWmU/s1600/ballot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpfg6WRGotobgIbMUnVXezOe2dOyenygouDOW-U__QILXre-5TH0a0axPPmd-wO7YcoV6ObsdNKD4DtdLLVZAT2M_DOxSsmSJDomqDxBei9Rqnp9WoGN4sqWcG_nZ_NO30rT8U80vXWmU/s320/ballot.jpg" width="248" /></a>The web gets even more tangled when one realizes that another Rodriguez sibling (Joanne Rodriguez Gonzales) also works in the warehouse where her nephew Amadeo III is employed.
ROGER ORTIZ: TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, TOO CONVENIENT

Garcia were taking some elderly against their will and coercing them to vote for their slate of candidates.<br />The manager of the retirement complex later told police she had told Norma Hernandez and her workers that the premises were privately owned and that they could not pick up the elderly there and take them to vote.<br />A report filed with the City of Brownsville Police indicate that politiquero Amadeo Rodriguez Jr., and Hernandez herself, had attempted to herd unwilling elderly residents of the same retirement apartment complex and were handing them marked sample ballots with their candidates' names already filled in for them to vote.<br />And still more incriminating complaints about their behavior continued to pour in, this time, not only to Ortiz, who lent a deaf ear to the chorus, but also to the local daily from unimpeachable credible sources who said they witnessed the blatant abuse of the elderly and mentally impaired at the polls, notably the Cristo Rey Catholic Church and Cameron Park Centro Comunitario sites.<br />:One witness, retired federal law enforcement officer Robert Gracia, and a lifelong Southmost resident, said the scope of the cheating was "embarrassing to see."<br />He said that when he went to vote at Cristo Rey on Wednesday, he saw a man (politiquero) "dropping licenses and voter registration cards in front of the three election clerks. These belonged to the people who were in the van. He said he saw the man cast ballots on behalf of seven people and was merely told to place his name and initials in order to document his participation.<br />"He was doing everything. That's illegal...This was ridiculous and it was embarrassing too see," he said. "It was gross."<br />Gracia, as have others before him, reported that it was obvious to see that some of the people in the van were mentally incapacitated and had no idea for whom their votes were cast.<br />Ortiz, when called by the clerks at the site, said he had taken care of the problem (three full days into the voting) by talking to the elections clerks "in regards to procedures and make sure everything was being conducted the way it should."<br />A local blogger said that Ortiz seemed more preoccupied that someone was present to observe the procedures at the Cameron Park site and that he told him an his wife that he had gotten a report that they had been reported "loitering" at a park bench next to the Centro.<br />As we have reported before on this blog, the marked sample ballots that Norma Hernandez and politiqueros like Rodriguez handed to the elderly they wanted to take to vote from the retirement apartment complex had the ovals and large arrows pointing to the names of Erin Hernandez Garcia, Carlos Masso and Abel Gomez highlighted. All three appear to be running as a bona fide ticket against Yolanda Begum, Luis Saenz and Pete Avila.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-1225762840727603157?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

CELESTE ENDORSED BY MARY HELEN BERLANGA FOR TEXAS SBOE RUNOFF: REFUTES CORTEZ'S SCURRILOUS CHARGES
---------------------------------------------------------------
By<strong> Juan Montoya</strong><br />Mary Helen Berlanga, the outgoing incumbent on the Texas State Board of Education, has endorsed Celeste Zepeda Sanchez for the District 2 seat she now occupies in the runoff race against former Brownsville Independent School District trustee Ruben Cortez.<br />Berlanga didn't seek re-election to the seat which she has served in since 1982.<br />Sanchez is an assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at San Benito Consolidated Independent School District.<br /><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIEyO7u-1s8xuQL_9QwEsuM2LRkYp9AO9NRluijW0pN1PMU1uvkZUvRjWK-X2XdpkbmTRfPZh3stqI1rN7y6zjs6w5S3X0CV0C4XS1iHjhztH9Y5cdA1Vp__10Zbxwj_WA9mmxiDV5dOQ/s1600/aceleste.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIEyO7u-1s8xuQL_9QwEsuM2LRkYp9AO9NRluijW0pN1PMU1uvkZUvRjWK-X2XdpkbmTRfPZh3stqI1rN7y6zjs6w5S3X0CV0C4XS1iHjhztH9Y5cdA1Vp__10Zbxwj_WA9mmxiDV5dOQ/s400/aceleste.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Cortez, whose credentials do not go past a high school education certificate, and whose wife became a school principal while he was on teh BISD board, also serves on the Region 1 Education Service Center board.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Berlanga said she endorsed Sanchez because the candidate is focused on Texas' students and educators and has a passion for education.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">"I feel that she knows that the children come first," Berlanga said.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Also on Wednesday, Sanchez, who holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education, refuted some of the claims Cortez has made in his mailed campaign literature that she calls "blatantly false" and an attack on her credibility.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In one of his allegations, Cortez had said that the school district Sanchez worked for, two schools had been rated "unacceptable."</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">"Celeste has worked...for two school districts," her ad ran in today's daily. ROGER ORTIZ: TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, TOO CONVENIENT
---------------------------------------------------------------
By <b>Juan Montoya</b><br /><br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBHVE0xKUVQ5t6_ZUZfPDTgnVYFnJaj75rS12Mg8DFW4pNdOwukJ831Vm0u2uV0IBz5cukWiq9L9Uy_g4CvpGoCEKce8sb9M_4zlNQk6JlwAUNb0_xrMp9QD2i4jLSLiAF1Ug9CJn-44E/s1600/rogerchmp.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBHVE0xKUVQ5t6_ZUZfPDTgnVYFnJaj75rS12Mg8DFW4pNdOwukJ831Vm0u2uV0IBz5cukWiq9L9Uy_g4CvpGoCEKce8sb9M_4zlNQk6JlwAUNb0_xrMp9QD2i4jLSLiAF1Ug9CJn-44E/s400/rogerchmp.gif" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Roger Ortiz</td></tr></tbody></table><b> </b>Even as his office was being flooded with complaints of early-voting period shenanigans and ballot-box stuffing by the politiqueros for specific, identifiable candidates in the runoff elections, Cameron County Elections Administrator allowed them to continue until the clamor against them mounted in crescendo and he had to come up with some excuse for his dalliance.<br />His response came a full three days after elections observers and bystanders were reporting that politiqueros such as Norma Hernandez, wife of Ernie Hernandez Jr., Cameron County Pct. 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez, and mother of JP 2-2 candidate Erin H.

"One district had two unacceptable campuses for one year, both schools now meet state requirements used at teh time. Cortez insults the teachers and professionals who have worked hard to overcome state reporting technicalities."</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">And when Cortez charges that Sanchez resists 21st Century technologies, she responds that she "was instrumental in acquiring multiple grants, totaling millions of dollars, for the purchase of laptops, Promethean boards, and iPads."</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Other allegations that Sanchez will not listen to classroom teachers and favors high-stakes testing are also soundly discarded by Sanchez who points out that "as a former teacher, she knows the importance of teacher input," and that her "statement on accountability realignment" has nothing to do with testing."</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">"If Cortez was a viable candidate for the Texas State Board of Education, he would know the difference."</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Aside from Berlanga's endorsement, Sanchez has also been endorsed by the Corpus Christi-Caller in the Coastal Bend area. Runoff election is Tuesday, July 31.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-452750760778134759?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DEFEAT ELECTION FRAUD IS YOU
---------------------------------------------------------------
<em>âœChange does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability. It must be carried in on the backs of courageous people who never lose sight of the dream of this nation. The power of the people is always greater than the people in power.â </em>Mayor Cory Booker, Newark, N.J <br /><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">By <strong>Juan Montoya</strong></div>Some 8,300 votes have been cast in the Democratic Party primary runoffs, far exceeding the expectations of Democrats and Republicans alike.<br />And judging by what observers have seen at the polling places , a goodly number of these were the elderly and the infirm hauled in rented vans by the ticket headed by Carlos Masso, candidate for District Attorney, Erin Hernandez Garcia, candidate for Justice of the Peace 2-2, and Abel Gomez, candidate for Constable Pct. 2. Some have also commented that they have seen the name of Denise Blanchard, a candidate for Congressional District 34, also shaded.<br />As we have reported in past posts, some of these elderly have been virtually kidnapped from their adult day care centers, a marked sample ballot thrust at them as directions for their vote, and then held captive inside the vans while their overseen (politiqueros and politiqueras) watch them fill out the ballots as per their directions.<br /><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyphenhyphenq7eZ9yCKco0KzRPnlsPfWu6JtLbUe1pFwbvvb1coDwh4I2SvYxid644wI1crpQhWcQctRkc3Hlir-f2G42nYdsLvCwhWzG0EwqD4h279fP9qn60I8EBNFc8jzK_Q862OQHDIbj_8HE/s1600/vote1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyphenhyphenq7eZ9yCKco0KzRPnlsPfWu6JtLbUe1pFwbvvb1coDwh4I2SvYxid644wI1crpQhWcQctRkc3Hlir-f2G42nYdsLvCwhWzG0EwqD4h279fP9qn60I8EBNFc8jzK_Q862OQHDIbj_8HE/s320/vote1.jpg" width="255" /></a>This is coercion and election fraud pure and simple.</div>And this is not just us talking. <br />We have produced for our readers taped conversations where the elderly voters identified Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner Ernie Hernandez's wife Norma Hernandez, <em>"la mama de la candidata,"</em> directing them to <em>"llene las bolitas</em>" (fill in the ovals marked on the sample ballot) with her daughter's name as she looks over them filling the real ballots. Election department personnel obligingly handed the politiqueros the required number of ballots for their captive charges, even though many can walk and did not ask for assistance filling their ballots.<br />They, too, are accomplices in this subterfuge of fair and free elections.<br />Some of these poor elderly have gone on record and said Norma Hernandez lured them with promises of giving them a chicken plate after they voted, plates that never materialized.<br />Some have protested, but for the most part, these elderly and sometimes mentally disabled adults have done as they're told and voted for the candidates that the overseer ordered. <br />Of the six races in Tuesday's runoff, five are in the Democratic Party, where the largest number of irregularities have been reported. With some 8,300 votes cast in the Democratic primary and another 1,500 or so in the race in the Republican primary, it is easy to see that the problem lies in the larger number. <br />Besmirching the messenger for pointing out that in our social compact in a democracy we expect our leaders to embody traits and values that the rest of us frail human with our personal defects often lack holds no water. When massive fraud is perpetrated against the body politic (all of us, the community), this social compact is broken and the electorate should demand that these individuals who tore asunder the fragile bond between us be rejected from political leadership.<br />The fraud that has been documented and perpetrated against us won't be undone by a judge, as many of us have learned in the past. Judges are loath to undo election results even in the face of overwhelming evidence that fraud has occurred. They, too, run for election under this system as do county prosecutors. Expect no help from those quarters.<br />What's done is done. Now it is up to the rest of us to urge our fellow citizens who haven't cast their vote for whatever reason to vote with their feet and show up at the polls on Tuesday to neutralize the evil that has been perpetrated against the electoral process.<br />We know who is responsible for this. To attempt to obfuscate the issue by defending these practices or pointing out other's human frailties is to deny the premise that a meaningful democracy is an ideal worth fighting for or defending.<br />Do we want to change this? Or not?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-2682262223101804214?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

HOLLYWOOD WILL FEATURE BROWNTOWN'S BEST KEPT SECRETS; AND UNITED BROWNSVILLE REMAINS CLUELESS
---------------------------------------------------------------
By <strong>Juan Montoya</strong><br />When Robert Duvall, the first-rate actor of innumerable movies (my favorite role was when he was the guide for the Army in the movie Geronimo) came to film in Brownsville, he chose two spots that some locals wouldn't be caught dead in.<br />The first part of the filming was in Market Square with its quaint buildings and raunchy cantinas.<br />The other jewel was Charlie's Bar on 14th Street.<br />Now, does Duvall and Hollywood know something that we locals don't? <br />At Charlies, the joint starts rocking after 10 p.m. and you enter at your own risk. If you are identified as a "mark" by the ladies, get ready to spend some dough for their pleasure of their company. If not, well, you know what walks. At the Market Square, once you dodge the working guys and gals, there are actually some sedate places where one can actually talk over the jukebox in the corner.<br />While the landed gentry of Brownsville seems attracted by the sterile environments of the plasticized bars and watering holes north of Boca Chica, the well-heeled movie stars in Los Angeles have their eye on what locals consider seedy, blue-collar joints where you don't have to pay more than $2 bucks a brew and the talk is decidedly bilingual.<br />What do these people know that we don't?<br /><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyiAfceHgeWQRIRQizYc5yzPGu6P_wbYRnp6ASGA2uk5xzixJw_Z3upooatq1a78bnlPrQVkgXNwxGQ0FtfHxTryEgcQlP-hsRMxsdOEYB5LTHpQTVy30eokM0cjNnEjfOx5yDZXNfog/s1600/yolichap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyiAfceHgeWQRIRQizYc5yzPGu6P_wbYRnp6ASGA2uk5xzixJw_Z3upooatq1a78bnlPrQVkgXNwxGQ0FtfHxTryEgcQlP-hsRMxsdOEYB5LTHpQTVy30eokM0cjNnEjfOx5yDZXNfog/s320/yolichap.jpg" width="320" /></a>Recently, we have noticed where United Brownsville â" a scam looking for a raison d'etre to justify it's $25,000 that it receives as a gift from our various corporations and economic development alphabet soup organizations â" has "adopted" several projects initiated by local activists who want to see downtown resurrect.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">With its annual budget of $381,000 and a $85,000 executive director in Mike Gonzalez, it has now decided it wants to usurp the downtown revitalization game with its sparsely attended Better Block program. Before that, Melissa Castro had just about single-handedly implemented the Mercadito idea with the aid of local downtown promoters Ben Neece and George Ramirez, whose Crescent Moon was a bona fide incubator for local night scene. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Now, instead of a dark Market Square, weekend nights see throngs of colleges students and visitors to spots like the The Haven, Bora Bora, El Callejon, etc.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Add in a photo contest where the organization will not pay prize money but rather spread the fame of the shutterbugs who fall for the ruse, and you have the quintessential parasite organization sinking its teeth into yet more freebies at the expense of the local yokels. They get a lunch and get to meet Da Mayor and will share a lunch with Brownsville community leaders from the eight United Brownsville entities, which include â" among others â" the city of Brownsville, Brownsville Public Utilities Board and the Brownsville Independent School District.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF-MClTyzkjg_2_IDDGxERJ73KoqocqQGi6U6YsejFJsxOsqTolxQt9R-ZZv8nhEO9uZ1E7-QW_Y7vJ1dLl4iknLF-nwUWa_F3PB3sMKaGCBwh3KiIqcPujGLpCF9tl7SMGRHGyyBIkPI/s1600/mike+gonzalez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF-MClTyzkjg_2_IDDGxERJ73KoqocqQGi6U6YsejFJsxOsqTolxQt9R-ZZv8nhEO9uZ1E7-QW_Y7vJ1dLl4iknLF-nwUWa_F3PB3sMKaGCBwh3KiIqcPujGLpCF9tl7SMGRHGyyBIkPI/s1600/mike+gonzalez.jpg" /></a>The photo contest is only one of the first initiatives United Brownsville will release to get the community interested in the future of the city.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">âœThere will be a video contest and we also want an essay contest for high school students,â said Luciana Morales, intern United Brownsville who is studying public policy and management. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">âœI think the idea is to engage different segments of the population,âMorales said. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The winning pictures could be used in future United Brownsville ad campaigns and other marketing efforts. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">So basically, just as they get their funding for free and with virtually no one to account to except IBC President Fred Rusteberg and UTB President Juliet Garcia, they also want to get their graphics and photos for nothing under the guise of establishing a "dialogue" with the community.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Funding from the public entities and the boards is $25,000 apiece from the city of Brownsville, Brownsville Public Utilities Board, Brownsville Navigation District, Brownsville Independent School District, University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, Brownsville Community Improvement Corp. and Greater Brownsville Incentive Corporation. That's reallly not a bad take and all they have done so far is copy other peopl's ideas. Nifty, hey?</div>Although there are members of the private sector on the coordinating board, there has never been any mention made of how much they are kicking into the kitty. Could it be that they also want to start a "dialogue" with the residents of Brownsville as long as it's on the public's nickle and not on theirs?<br />At least Duvall pays to play.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-2137437059797925197?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
