DID ERIN GO OVER THE LINE WITH SUNDAY'S ANTI-BEGUM AD?
---------------------------------------------------------------
By<b> Juan Montoya</b><br />What ever drove Erin Hernandez Garcia to approve a newspaper ad that charges a member of the Begum Law Group in San Antonio with barratry and then seeks to not only smear her opponent's son Alex in the JP 2-2 race with committing the "shadowy, illegal practice," but also to insinuate that if his mother Yolanda Begum if elected to the office she seeks, would surely commit a crime and be a "runner" for her son's law firm and to "put money in her son's pockets."<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtLqXr1yuTAMP4Y8pkODwMQ-ObFf-aGibMQYPHRi9xJ0BXgq8BPjKLNl5GXXzp6aotVgnZtHn623mV_H5DjNQfJ2PXRMZEe9Ghu7NrZdkyVvKhwo_6hqBVeS2J8wZBvqH6Ssrew4-oGoE/s1600/cross-the-line.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtLqXr1yuTAMP4Y8pkODwMQ-ObFf-aGibMQYPHRi9xJ0BXgq8BPjKLNl5GXXzp6aotVgnZtHn623mV_H5DjNQfJ2PXRMZEe9Ghu7NrZdkyVvKhwo_6hqBVeS2J8wZBvqH6Ssrew4-oGoE/s320/cross-the-line.jpg" width="320" /></a>She justifies her claims that this will happen by saying that the "Justice of the Peace courts handle thousands of small claims like the kind that Mr. (Alex) Begum handles and makes his money from. Every year it is recorded in court dockets the list of all these accidents including names, addresses and phone numbers of all the victims involved."<br />Now, any lawyer worth their salt knows that all documents entered into local courts (unless they're ordered sealed) are open to the public. Why would Alex Begum need his mother to be the Justice of the Peace to have access to them?<br />What Hernandez didn't say was that Alex Begum himself was never personally named in the lawsuit, that the disgruntled employee had been reporting for unemployment all the while she was working for the law firm without their knowledge, that she was charged with fraud after the state acquired the documentation provided them by the Begum Law Group, and that as part of the case, she was made to pay restitution to the state for the funds she acquired illegally.<br />That was eight months ago. Now, suddenly the case is brought to light in this race and voters are led to believe that if Begum is elected to the JP office that Erin wants so badly, Alex will have his mother running cases for him.<br />That is a far stretch from the truth, but then again, Erin doesn't appear to be running based on honesty or integrity, but rather, on her vaunted legal skills.<br />We understand that the attorney who took on the disgruntled employees lawsuit was not aware of her client's background and the context under which her client filed the lawsuit against he Begum Group. However, she now knows that the chiropractor's office that allegedly called the firm to ask about legal representation for one of the patients has also filed an affidavit saying they know nothing of the woman's claims and never called the firm seeking an attorney.<br />Now, as we all know, anyone can claim anything in a lawsuit. Whether those claims can be proven is another thing altogether.<br />Now, Hernandez is leading people to believe that Yolanda Begum â" if voters elect her over Erin â" will open the case files to her son and pay him back for the money he and the Begum family have invested in the campaign.<br />In other words, she is telling us that Begum will commit a crime and use the office of JP solicit clients for her son.<br />That's the stuff lawsuits are made of, and we understand that Erin may be getting a knock on her door from a process server in the very near future handing her a lawsuit with her name filling in the line where the defendant is listed.<br />This is not the first time the Hernandez campaign has resorted to associate with anti-Begum personalities with unseemly pasts. There was also her association with a Josefina Canales, who was under a restraining order in Houston, and who sought to communicate with Yolanda Begum trying to demand that she extend financial assistance to her children by a union with her late-husband's son.<br />In that case, the judge ordered the restraining order after a complaint was filed against her by a man in Houston who said Canales was attempting to extort money from him under a threat of sending compromising tapes and documents to his family and associates.<br />Now Hernandez is using the complaint filed by a plaintiff who has been caught defrauding the state and made to pay back restitution to smear Yolanda and her son Alex, who by the way, is not running for office. In her very own words in the offending ad: (We feel there's a trend here).<br />And if you thought Erin and her supporters were done with immigrant bashing, a cursory glance at another of her scorecard ads shows that while Erin was "born and raised in Brownsville" Yolanda "attended school in Mexico" and was born and raised "?," in Mexico, of course.<br />Hey Erin, have you noticed that the two GOP candidates for the new Congressional District 34 (both women, by the way) were both born in Mexico, immigrated to the United States and are now proud U.S. citizens running to represent you in the U.S. House of Representatives? How is that a minus? Are they somehow less because they are immigrants, or because they're Mexican women? Your ad doesn't specify what makes them less worthy than you.<br />Or, to take another example, if you ever get near being elected, do you now that the Cameron County Judge who will have a say-so in your office budget will be Carlos Cascos, a naturalized citizen who has no qualms about saying he was born in Matamoros?<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4WxZnD9Mc8TTw1jw7jsnqwcgfL9pIOGbfo4MVR3PPaMIzIje8yQjU226dWM6FT02-PgkLqiE8dRYyFomTCFP3rGojTHdagO_9ebEqDWfmDtGiU2uGOIxZf_hKkzbGlS9KmXM57HHvns0/s1600/erinad.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4WxZnD9Mc8TTw1jw7jsnqwcgfL9pIOGbfo4MVR3PPaMIzIje8yQjU226dWM6FT02-PgkLqiE8dRYyFomTCFP3rGojTHdagO_9ebEqDWfmDtGiU2uGOIxZf_hKkzbGlS9KmXM57HHvns0/s320/erinad.jpg" width="320" /></a>We close this with some comic relief.<br />This morning we came upon Erin's politiquera mayor (Herminia Hernandez) at the parking lot across from the County Elections Office who complained about a mailout sent to local voters where the "unethical" acts by her, her father Ernie Hernandez, and her uncles (the Cadriels) were enumerated.<br />She said the ad was in poor taste and would backfire on Begum.<br />Why, we asked?<br />"Because the way they made her look is an insult to people with mental disabilities (<i>los pobres mongolitsos</i>, in her words)," she claimed. "<i>La gente anda indignada!"</i><br />This, of course, is funny beyond words. But something tells us that the<i> pobre mongolitos</i> aren't at the core of that protest. It's more like a very slim hook with which to seek sympathy for the faltering political fortunes of the Erin Hernandez candidacy for JP 2-2.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-4087678961572116617?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

FOR LINDA SALAZAR AND TRUSTED STAFF: A DAY TO HAUL VOTES FOR RUBEN

As a matter of fact, she is scheduled to pick up voters at one of the many clinics around the Valley Baptist Medical Center complex. She will show up, joking and joshing with endearing crudity and hand everyone marked sample ballots with a check on the oval next to her son's name on the ballot.<br />Now reports are surfacing that in the past month, those getting married in her office were handed Ruben Cortez's campaign material along with their marriage documents and that some of the couples had received calls from her office soliciting donations for her son's campaign.<br />Now, we know a mother's love is one thing, but to use the public offices and the time while on the county payroll to push for a relative's political race is quite another.<br />We hope that the powers that be put a stop of this kind of behavior from public officials and their employees. We really can't blame the underlings from doing what they are told by their boss, but their boss should know better by now.<br /><br /><br /><iframe src="javascript:;" id="AnswersBalloonIframe" style="background-color: transparent; border: medium none; height: 306px; left: 479px; margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 10px; position: absolute; top: 204px; visibility: hidden; width: 490px; z-index: 99998;"></iframe><br /><div id="AnswersBalloon" style="left: 479px; position: absolute; text-align: left; top: 204px; visibility: hidden; width: 490px; z-index: 99999;"><div class="AnswersHeader"><div class="AnswersHeaderInner" handlefor="AnswersBalloon" id="AnswersHandle0" style="cursor: move;"><div class="AnswersHeader1"><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6016803033174468094" onclick="var ac = document.getElementById('answertipClose'); if (ac) ac.innerHTML='close'; else window.status='close'; return true;" style="float: right;"><img align="top" alt="Close" border="0" id="AnswersCloseImage" src="http://www.answers.com/main/images/close.gif" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; margin-right: 10px; position: relative;" /></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6016803033174468094" id="AnswertipMore" onclick="var ac = document.getElementById('answertipClose'); if (ac) ac.innerHTML='close'; else window.status='close';return true;" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; float: right; margin-top: 9px; padding-right: 10px; text-decoration: none; visibility: hidden;" target="AnswersQueryWindow"><span class="AnswersHeader3"> Read more >> </span></a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6016803033174468094" id="AnswertipOptions" onclick="var ac = document.getElementById('answertipClose'); if (ac) ac.innerHTML='options'; else window.status='options';return true;" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; float: right; margin-top: 9px; padding-right: 10px; text-decoration: none;"><span class="AnswersHeader3"> Options >> </span></a></div><div><a href="http://www.answers.com/?initiator=FFANS" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; float: left;"><img align="top" alt="Visit Answers.com" border="0" id="AnswersLogoImage" src="http://www.answers.com/main/images/answers-logo.gif" /></a></div></div><div class="AnswersContentFrame" id="Answers_frame"><table class="donotmoveme" id="Balloontable2" style="float: left; width: 480px;"><tbody><tr><td><div id="Answertip" style="height: 235px; overflow: hidden; width: 473px;"></div><div id="answertipClose" style="display: none;"></div></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div class="AnswersFooter" id="Answers_footer"><div style="float: left; height: 22px; width: 471px;"><iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" id="AnswersAds" scrolling="no" src="http://www.answers.com/main/tip2.jsp?s=joshing%2520with%2520endearing%2520crudity%2520and%2520hand%2520everyone&wt=1&nafid=&cobrand=" style="border: 0px; height: 22px; padding: 0px; width: 100%;" type="content"></iframe></div></div></div><div id="AnswerTipHook" style="background-image: url(http://www.answers.com/main/images/hook-bottomL.gif); height: 29px; margin-left: 25px; position: relative; top: -15px; width: 70px;"></div></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-4431517860655116963?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

FARENTHOLD ENDORSES ADELA IN GOP DISTRICT 34 RUNOFF
---------------------------------------------------------------

"Farenthold's endorsement of Adela shows that the smart money is with Garza if there is going to be nay hope for victory in November."<br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6016803033174468094-6632638113940884026?l=rrunrrun.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
