HAVEN OPENS NEW YEAR'S EVE!

Located in the Adams Street Entertainment District, the bar is selling itself as a "unique form of entertainment."<br /><br />"We have been waiting with bated breath," said Ben <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Neece</span>, the proprietor of the Crescent Moon <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Cantina</span>, which has become a downtown institution in spite of its short existence. "Every new establishment may be a small step in the estimation of some, but it is a big step in the revitalization of downtown."<br /><br />"Our hope is to see downtown grow as an entertainment district," said Juan <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kenigstein</span>, Haven's owner. "We want to help our community in any way we can. We are looking forward to serving our patrons and providing them with great entertainment."<br /><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kenigstein</span>, well-educated and charismatic personality, believes in starting his <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">seventh</span> decade with a bang. A high-school graduate of El <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">Colegio</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Boliviano</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Isrealita</span>, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kenigstein</span> went on to complete a bachelor's in industrial engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, a master's in guidance and counseling from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a doctorate in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">thanatology</span> from <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">Breyer</span> State University.<br /><br />"Do not solve the problem with the same mind that created it," replied <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kenigstein</span> when questioned about his philosophy regarding life. "I'm only quoting Einstein. It seemed to work well for him. Why shouldn't it work just as effectively for the rest of us?"<br /><br />"Juan is an interesting character," said Dr. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-error">Polyphemous</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">Pangloss, the president of the Downtown Incentive Corporation (DIC) </span>. "He's one of those intellectual fellows who has always gone against the grain. You wouldn't think of him as someone who would typically open a bar, but Juan is the type of individual who has never followed the script."<br /><br />"I have no doubt that he will be an important voice in promoting downtown. He isn't afraid to speak his mind, but he is more articulate than he is vociferous."<br /><br />"I can hardly wait for Haven to usher in the new year," said George Ramirez, the godfather of downtown. "His bar could be the Thursday night headquarters for the Latin Jazz Festival next fall. I wish him well. The momentum keeps growing and I couldn't be more excited about our future prospects."<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8975636851109159442-6015684663383301095?l=downbrowntownnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

"Since we seldom <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">concur</span> politically, it shouldn't have surprised anyone that the initial gathering of the community's most <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">mesmerizing</span> minds was characterized by much squabbling."<br /><br />Seating members was the first line of business. Barton, El <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Rrun</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Rrun's</span> Juan Montoya, Brownsville Voice's Bobby <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes, Brownsville <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Cheezmeh's</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Erasmo</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">Dragustinovis</span>, The <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">Paz</span> Files' Eduardo <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-error">Paz</span>-Martinez, The Art of Brownsville's Gabriel Trevino and Downtown <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-error">Browntown's</span> Dr. G.F. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-error">McHale</span>-<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">Scully</span> were elected unanimously.<br /><br />Much wrangling followed the nominations of Melissa Zamora, Cafe Brownsville's Chris Davis, Care Brownsville's Carlos <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_14" class="blsp-spelling-error">Quintanilla</span> and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_15" class="blsp-spelling-error">UUUUUYYYYY's</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_16" class="blsp-spelling-error">Maclovio</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_17" class="blsp-spelling-error">O'Malley</span>. The newly formed entity rejected Zamora and Davis while accepting <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_18" class="blsp-spelling-error">Quintanilla</span> and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_19" class="blsp-spelling-error">O'Malley</span>.<br /><br />"A former <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_20" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">blogger</span>, Zamora lacked the basic qualification of a current blog,"explained Barton. "Though Davis promotes an official site, his updates are too few and far between. The left in a huff but holding hands. We wish them the best.<br /><br />"Before departing, however, they both protested <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_21" class="blsp-spelling-error">Quintanilla</span> and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_22" class="blsp-spelling-error">O'Malley's</span> successful petitions. Surprisingly, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_23" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes came to the political activist's defense, arguing that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_24" class="blsp-spelling-error">Quintanilla's</span> home in Dallas in a non-factor since the nascent association has no residency requirements.<br /><br />"<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_25" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes further asserted that there is no substantial difference between an oral and a written blog. He added that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_26" class="blsp-spelling-error">O'Malley's</span> regular Tuesday night broadcasts established his viability."<br /><br />The battle for the presidency was much more contentious, oftentimes degenerating into the soap opera resembling the national Republican debates. It narrowed down to a Montoya/<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_27" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes showdown with Montoya taking the Romney high road and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_28" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes descending into the Gingrich gutters with his vicious personal attacks against his foe. Montoya's more impressive journalistic credentials proved the crucial difference.<br /><br />"I'm going to sue," spat an emotional <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_29" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wightman</span>-Cervantes. "You are a bunch of homosexual haters. If I had been a macho like Montoya, I would have won, but since I choose to explore my feminine side through my sensitive and sexy anus, you rejected my candidacy."<br /><br />At <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_30" class="blsp-spelling-error">Paz</span>-Martinez's insistence, Brownsville's most prominent <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_31" class="blsp-spelling-error">bloggers</span> retired to the Crescent Moon <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_32" class="blsp-spelling-error">Cantina</span>. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_33" class="blsp-spelling-error">Paz</span>-Martinez took the stage and made the most of his opportunity by rendering his Tex-Mex versions of several Christmas carols. Rumbo al' Anacua's Joe and Rosa Perez picked guitars and provided the harmonies for the joyous occasion.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8975636851109159442-2927204412713323091?l=downbrowntownnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>
