Downtown Browntown will become the Brownsville Blues by the end of this year. The latter site is now available at brownsvilleblues.blogspot.com.

"It is still a work in progress," said Scott Steinbeck, Downtown Browntown's managing editor who will remain in the same capacity at the new venture. Dr. G.F. McHale, our publisher, likes a simpler presentation acquired from his many years reading the New Yorker. Too many advertisements, in his opinion, clouded the present presentation. He is in the process of returning to a basic flog with little fanfare."

"I like a headline, a story and a picture," said McHale-Scully from South Padre Island where he is spending the holiday with his family. "Too many blogs have too many lights and bells. I prefer sticking to the fundamentals."

There will be no return to the pornographic art as in the past, but the commentary section will be reinstated. Both Steinbeck and Dr. McHale-Scully insisted, however, there won't be rhetoric that rivaled the wild women either.

"We aren't prudes and we appreciate inspired language, but we're not going to tolerate the gratuitous prose and attacks as we did in the past," explained Steinbeck. "The cheap thrills can prove costly in the end.

"We will still ride the envelope. We would like to think that our humor and satire compare to the comedy and biting commentary featured on Saturday Night Live and Bill Maher. Dr. McHale-Scully's The Peerless Observer will anchor the new site as it has Downtown Browntown. He plans no changes in its strident tone."

Steinbeck and Dr. McHale-Scully are implementing the switch from Downtown Browntown to the Brownsville Blues in a more orderly and slower fashion.

"We went from the Brownsville Literary Review to Downtown Browntown from one day to the next and lost many readers in the sudden and unexpected switch," stated Steinbeck. "We are going to run the same articles on both blogs beginning later in the week. Although it is in its nascent stage, we noticed through our stats that some of our three readers are converting to the new web page.

"Since Google terminated El Rocinante, we have been searching for a blog that appeals to both our artistic sensitivities and our journalistic standards. The Brownsville Literary Review and Downtown Browntown were worthy experiments, but the pair fell short of our aesthetic expectations. As I said previously, Brownsville Blues is a work in progress. We expect to have a more concrete interpretation of our vision by the close of the year."
