The organization, founded by Danny Loff and Wesley Reed, has been leading the battle against both the Greater Brownsville Incentive Corporation and the Brownsville Economic Development Council to invest more money in downtown. "You love DIC, don't you?" asked Dr. G.F. McHale-Scully, the respected writer who has been given the responsibility to recruit Kinney for DIC. "I probably appreciate DIC a little more than most," said Kinney. "DIC needs to insert itself more directly into your life," continued Dr. McHale-Scully. "I don't know if I can handle DIC right now," replied Kinney. "If I open myself up to DIC, I open myself up to other overtures. I really don't think I can handle DIC at the moment. It might be too much for me. I don't think I have the experience." "DIC fits right up your alley," argued Dr. McHale-Scully. "I wouldn't be behind this DIC push if I didn't think you could handle it. DIC will be good for you." "I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be tempted by DIC, but I have no experience. To handle DIC, you have to have experience. Like I said before, I have no experience. If the truth be known, I really believe that DIC is too big for me." "Don't underestimate yourself, Joe. Open yourself up to all the possibilities. DIC isn't too big for you." "Why me? Why not someone like Melissa Zamora? She has the experience. I'm sure she could handle DIC without any difficulty. This is virgin territory for me. DIC is simply too big for me. Melissa's your candidate. I'm supremely confident that DIC isn't too big for her." "You're right. Melissa does have the experience that you lack, but DIC is tired of the same old politico bed fellows. DIC wants somebody new, someone who can help it reach its full potential." "I love DIC, but I don't love DIC that much. I already have my hands full. I go back to my original argument: Melissa would take DIC to new heights. You stick me with DIC and it will shrivel up under me. Sorry.
